Joe Russo’s Almost Dead
Joe Russo’s Almost Dead is an American rock band from New York City, formed in 2013. The band consists of Joe Russo (drums), Marco Benevento (keyboards), Dave Dreiwitz (bass), Tom Hamilton (guitar/vocals), and Scott Metzger (guitar/vocals). The band performing at the Leader Bank Pavilion on Saturday August 12th, 2023 will be their first performance in the Boston area in three years.
Joe Russo’s Almost Dead was formed in 2013, when Joe Russo and Marco Benevento, who had been playing together in the duo Furthur, decided to start a new project. They recruited Dave Dreiwitz, Tom Hamilton, and Scott Metzger, and the band played their first show in New York City in January of 2014. The band has been touring regularly since then, playing shows all over the United States and Canada.
The band’s music is based on the songs of the Grateful Dead, and they often play Dead songs in a completely different style than the Dead did. For example, they might play a Dead song in a faster tempo, or add elements of other genres such as funk or jazz. This makes for a very unique and interesting live experience
